Misty Mountain Morning
carolgunter

It's a foggy and misty Friday morning up here on the mountain. I mowed part of our yard yesterday and hope to get more mowing done today, before rain moves in and stays through Sunday.  Looks like we got short-changed on the rainfall for our area.  Counties west of Nashville got 2-3 inches of rain.  We got around a half an inch.

Checking in with Burley last night around 7:30. He had turned in early and was sleeping well, until I called.  Thought later he had probably gone to bed before the chickens went to roost.  He is an early riser and most likely is wide awake before the rooster crows.

My mom, "Mrs. Hester Warren" loved to hear a rooster crowing.  I can remember her having six or seven roosters at the barn.  She was one sweet lady and a Christian.  She loved chickens and was forever buying and selling them.  The best I can remember her favorite chickens were the Rhode Island Reds.  Back in "better days" you could order baby chicks, and the mail carrier would deliver that big box of chicks to you.  Mom made sure the chicken house was ready to house all those chicks and was critter-proof in stopping any intruders trying to get those chicks.  She didn't lose many chicks in all her years of raising them.  Many a time I would spend time with her in that chicken house watching the chicks all yellow and fuzzy and making their cute little sounds and just how adorable they were to watch.  I am forever grateful to God for my mom that took care of us and so much more while she lived here.  Her journey of life here ended Christmas Eve, 2008.

She was "94" years old when she left us and went home to be in the presence of Jesus, her Savior.  We were blessed beyond measure.  If you still have your mom, treasure what God has given you and always, but always, let her know you love her.

Got to chat with Ann Warren last week and all is well with her family.  Ruth Brown and son, Jeff, enjoying a visit from Ruth's brother Jack Parsley and wife Elaine last weekend.  They live in Georgia.  Rick and Beverly Hubler enjoying this nice weather like me as it's not too hot or too cold.  Beverly hasn't seen a woolly worm or those other insects I mentioned in the last column this fall either.

Next week Thanksgiving will arrive.  We certainly have a lot to be thankful for don't we?  God is always blessing us day in and day out.  When you look at that dinner table before you loaded it down with all those scrumptious dishes to dig into, be sure to give thanks to your Creator/God that loves you unconditionally and wants only the best for you and your family to have.  He sent his son, Jesus, to shed His precious blood and die on that cross so that we could be forgiven of our sins.  In other words, Jesus took our place.  This world has never known such a love as this.  Some of us will have an empty chair or two at that Thanksgiving feast as our loved ones that passed away will be at that banquet table in heaven that our table here will pale in comparison.  They are quite well and happy and are in need of nothing.  I would tell you to enjoy being with your loved ones while you can, because they won't be here forever.

Please keep praying for the following people:  Dustin Johnson, Junior Melton, Mary Melton, Walter and Faye Ferrell, Diane Evans, Rose Watts, the people of Israel and Ukraine, and the leaders of our country.

Have a great day!  I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:  for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.  Romans 1:16
