And The Eagle Flies …

“But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength: they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

The eagle … our national bird that represents courage, strength and freedom. It is evident by their choice our Founding Fathers wanted an immortal symbol for the land for which they had fought so hard. Had they lost the Revolutionary War, all of them would have been hung as traitors. They were so thankful, they founded this new nation based on the laws of God, making an oath this new land be dedicated to God.

They were so dedicated to this purpose that after his inauguration, George Washington led Congress to St. Paul’s church in New York and prayed.

Almighty God; we make our earnest prayer that Thour wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally, that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I am sure God is grieved at the country founded and helped is very happy with us.. …. Oh, how quickly and deeply hard we have fallen. However, hope is not lost. We find hope in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “[If] My people, who bear My name, humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”

This is a country in deep, oppressive trouble on every side. We have fallen away from that country for which the eagle soared. I wonder how that eagle flies now. Does it see and feel the darkness and turmoil around us? How does it feel to be a symbol of a great nation that seems to have fallen away from grace? … I think we all know the answer to that one

Let us pray for our nation with all the power we have,  and watch as the eagle flies.
