Need More Days
New dog pen

Uncle Artford Mayberry was busily working on his new dog pen for his fox hounds.  For years they had just run loose in the yard and slept under the front porch like all other dogs did. But progress was coming, and things were changing. His dogs often went out on their own during the daytime and chased whatever they chose to chase.
Uncle Artford had become suspicious that it was not always a fox, and some of his hunting buddies were starting to comment during their night hunts that they thought his dogs were running trash.  Even more important than that, Aunt Dellar was all upset because the dogs were sucking all her eggs.
Something needed to be done, and no one knew this better than Uncle Artford. With the help of his neighbor, Spud Ledbetter, and with some technical advice from Walter Zachary, they carefully laid out their plans and gathered their building material.
After several restarts and more than a few fusses over how to do it, their pen was finally complete, and a fine pen it was indeed; with a nice swinging gate on one end and a state of the art dog house on the other end.  Although it had somewhat of a lopsided look to it, it should keep his hounds out of the rain.
A problem was spotted before the day was over.  Old Major, his best hound, was climbing up the side and jumping out of the pen.
“Easy to fix that,” Uncle Artford said.
He and his work crew found a chain and tied one end of it to major's collar and the other end to a nail in the doghouse. They carefully measured Major and the chain so that Major could climb just to the top of the fence and no further. They stopped for the evening and went on to bed as soon as it started to get dark.
Morning revealed a sad sight that brought a tear to Artford's eye.  They had miscalculated the length of the chain and Major could climb over the fence but not enough to reach the ground.
Even Aunt Dellar seemed a little sad at Major's funeral.
As we build our life we need to make very sure that we are building according to the way and will of God, lest we discover after it is too late that we have made a tragic mistake.
