Needmore Days
Buried treasure

We were extremely happy with what we had just found, but not that surprised.
After all, the fortune teller lady at the carnival had told Dooley and Cousin Billy Clyde exactly the same thing just last week, although they had their fortunes told over an hour apart, both were amazed to learn that they were about to come into a large sum of money.  She had used almost exactly the same words for both of them.
This very convincing revelation made us very sure it was going to happen, although she couldn't be sure where it was coming from.   Besides that Dooley had been having a bad itch in his right hand which was a sure sign he was going to come into money..  either that or he had poison ivy on his hand again.
Still, finding that pirate treasure map was a stroke of good luck.  I wonder why we had never noticed it before, said Cousin Billy Clyde.
It showed up just beside where Dooley kept his sack of country gentleman smoking tobacco hidden in the corn crib. We never had looked right over there argued Dooley with some irritation in his voice..  It has probably been there for a thousand years, he stated, not being sure how old that corn crib was.
Ms. Josie had been fussing at  Dooley about digging a new hole for the outhouse, but there was no time to fool with that today, we had important business on our mind.
With the map spread out before us, we could see immediately that we would not have far to go on our treasure hunt. That looks like the big oak tree behind our house, cried Dooley with excitement in his voice.
We carefully stepped off the distance from  the tree to the old stump and  from there to the corner of the smoke house.  Thirty steps due east put us right on top of the buried treasure.
Billy Clyde didn't have to do all the digging that day as was usually the case when digging needed to be done The old outhouse smelled terrible.
We wished the treasure could have been somewhere besides right beside it.  The old outhouse probably wasn't even there when the pirates buried it,  reassured Dooley.
With great excitement we dug down deep.  As the sun got higher in the sky and hotter, it seemed the old outhouse stunk worse and worse. Our hopes began to dim, and Billy Clyde didn't help any by asking how the pirates got the treasure all the way from the ocean over there.
He also wondered out loud if the smoke house was even there in pirate days. About that time Ms. Josie showed up.
“Why boys, I am surprised you chose such a hot day to dig the new outhouse hole.” She also noticed the old pirate map and asked if we found that in the corn crib.
“Now Dooley, don't  you boys try to move the outhouse by yourself. I will send  your daddy out here to help you scoot it over the new hole.”
She gave us a quarter each for our work, Dooley's hand was right after all.
Our God supplies all our needs out of the riches of his glory.  Even when we are off in wrong directions He watches our every move.  How many times have you seen God work in your life?
