What a Week! Smithville made the news last week (not on purpose) with the tornado damage. Poor Smithville Elem. School! Don't know the plan for those children to receive their long-awaited report cards due to the building being hit.
I hope everyone enjoyed Memorial Day holiday. I always enjoy watching the Washington, D.C., program on Sunday evening. There were other tributes around the nation. Our military men/women deserve all the recognition possible.
Best wishes to Lane Poss on his decision to be baptized several Sundays ago at Dry Creek. He is the son of J.J. and Jim Poss and attends Bright Hill Methodist Church.
Sympathy to Gianna Owens on the recent death of her mother, while vacationing in Italy. The service was held last weekend in North Carolina.
Have you heard the music of the cicadas recently? They have a life span of 13 years in the southern states and 17 in the northern states.
They produce a buzzing sound with drumlike membrances located inside the abdomen. They hatch on tree branches. I found some on my flowers. I understand that dogs eat them. Also, there was a place in Nashville advertising chocolate cicadas. Ugh!
Anyway, school is out and some families are leaving town on vacations. Parents, please urge your children to get outside and play or participate in summer camps, vacation bible cchool, or the library reading program. Anything but staring at TV or playing video games all summer. As a teacher, I can say that this is not healthy!
The Country Treasures Shoppe on Walnut Street is sporting a new boutique section at bargain prices; good chainsaws for all those broken tree limbs, bicycles, and beautiful coverlets. Friday is Sidewalk Sale DAy.
Last Sunday was Dr. John Purdue's last service at First Methodist. There was a farewell dinner after the service. He has been appointed to Crossville First UMC. We will miss him at church and also riding around town on his bicycle. A good way to beat the high gas prices!
