I was so touched by the courtesy shown to others at a recent trip to Walmart in McMinnville. While in line to check out, an older lady was two buggies ahead of me and as she was trying to get her items up on the counter as quickly as she could one can fell off the counter and on to the floor. Well, this lady and I guess it was her daughter with her, saw what happened the young girl, a teenager without hesitation went to the lady’s aid and picked up the can for her and put it on the counter to which the lady thanked her. I noticed the lady had a whole lot of items that were being bagged by “Helen” an employee that has been at Walmart since I don’t know when but always tells you “God bless you” as you are leaving. She is such a beautiful asset to Walmart. She’s had heart surgery some time back and doesn’t get around as good as she did. The young girl evidently noticed what was going on with the older lady and Helen and she told her daughter to stay with the cart as she went over and put those bags of groceries and etc. in the lady’s cart without skipping a beat I might add. I wasn’t wearing one of my hats that day, but if I had, I would have taken it off to both of these ladies as they are the epitome of how we should be each and every day when others need help. On top of their respect for older people, I only heard “nice talking” from both of them, while I was waiting to push my cart to the counter. How refreshing to encounter young people springing into action in this day and time to come to someone’s rescue in a time of need. Goes to show me these ladies were brought up right and their parents are to be commended on a job well done in parenting them. It all “starts in the home” at a young age to teach your kids respect for others and their feelings and how to conduct themselves in being upright citizens as the get older.
As I said before “manners matter” whatever your age and how you treat others will be the way it will come back to you someday. We all have a choice and remember we will be like that older lady if we live that long and we’ll be thanking someone for helping us no doubt maybe even in the same manner. Just be a person that does the right thing in helping others who can’t do for themselves, if and when the situation arises.
