What a gorgeous weekend! I planted my strawberry and tomato plants in my Topsy Turvy planters on my porch. I had good luck last year with them, so I'm going to try it again.
It was a good weekend for graduations, parties and yard work. Congratulations to all the graduates, high school and pre-school.
There was a large crowd at the Methodist Pre-School, last Thursday evening. Deanna Adams, director, and the teachers featured all the precious little students with songs and recognition of their graduation.
I walked down to the Farmers Market on the courthouse square last Saturday morning, where Mrs. Virginia Jones and a few others were selling their wonderful produce. Mrs. Jones' jam is so good.
It was good to see some activity in town on Saturday compared to many, many years ago when everyone came to town on Saturday.
How things have changed!
Well, the Rapture prediction didn't come true! This man who predicted all this and made a lot of money from it didn't read the Bible where it said,"not even the angels in heaven know when the end of the world will come."
I remember back in the 90's when we were living in Gainesboro, that someone had predicted this. We had planned to go on vacation to Niagara Falls about the predicted time. Some members there begged us to not go off with this event, predicted.
My husband comforted them by telling them that he couldn't save them and quoted the above scripture to them. When we returned, he said,"See, I told you so." So, my advice is just be prepared! I predict that Jesus will come back on a Sunday, so don't miss church.
Be sure and watch the show, Oprah, this Wednesday. It's her final show after all these years. I'm mentioning her since she is from Nashville and her father is a barber down there.
Memorial Day is this weekend. It is a time to honor our servicemen who died in battle. Flowers are usually put on the graves of all military men. Memorial Day originated during the Civil War in 1868 by Major General John A. Logan.
Grief was heavy in Hartsville last week with the death of three teenagers in an auto accident. Our pastor, Dr. John Purdue, officiated at the funeral of the Oldham teenager. He knew the family when he was pastor in Hartsville, four years ago.
Get well wishes to Mr. Clifton Poss. He is in a Nashville hospital. Mr. Poss is the father of Danny Poss.
Birthday wishes this week to Fay Christian Nixon in Alexandria, Rose Colwell Dillen and Becky Roberts, secretary at First Methodist.
Remember in your prayers, upcoming surgery for my cousin, Mary Elizabeth Medlen Cox, in Panama City. She was the niece of the late Mamie Duke,who was a teacher here.
The Country Treasures Shoppe is still open Thursday-Saturday but is closing at 1 p.m. on Saturday. There is a sidewalk sale every Friday. New merchandise comes in every week.
I know the teachers and students are counting the days and hours until school is out for the summer.
