Charlie Mai Maxwell, age 88, of Smithville passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 30, 2022 at her residence.
She was born April 25, 1934 to her parents, the late C.W. and Mary Alice Elrod Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Maxwell; two sisters, Marie Kortley and Ludell Smith; three brothers, Rex, Ralph and Fred Jones; brother-in-law, Loyd Maxwell; two sisters-in-law, Lois Malone and Sammie Knott; two nieces, Tommie Smith and Jean Taylor; two nephews, Larry Knott and Buzzy Maxwell.
Charlie Mai was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and attended the Phillipi Church of Christ for many years. She was a 1953 graduate of the Smithville High School. She was a businesswoman having worked alongside her husband for 20 years in the store; she worked several years in the garment factory and 26 years with the DeKalb County Highway Department.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sammie Ray Maxwell of Smithville; brother-in-law, Robert D. Knott of Smithville; nieces and nephews; Sharon (Clay) Farler, Gary (Kathy) Malone, Diane Mayes, Phil (Peggy) Malone, Terry (Teresa) Maxwell, Trudie (Tom) Jensen, April (Greg) McGibben, Mary Alice (Matthew) Stanley, Jason (Andrea) Tegos, Georgia Knott and Wayne Taylor; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dan Gulley, Hilton Conger and Bro. Alvaro Earlington officiating. Burial followed in Burton-Ponder Cemetery with Bro. Graden Kirksey officiating.
Pallbearer included Willie Moser, Tanner Poss, Lane Poss, Wayne Pack, Jimbo Pack, and Stacy Wheeler.
In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, in memory of Charlie Mai Maxwell.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
