James M. “Jimmy” Ervin, 85, of Smithville passed away Thursday, Sept. 19 after a brief illness of cancer. He was born on Oct 11, 1927 in Smithville to the late Wilson and Maggie Ervin.
He graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1946. Jimmy served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a shriner in the Masonic Lodge, and owner of Ervin Service Station for 30 years.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Bobbie Spencer Ervin of Smithville; daughters, Jane Parsley (Vester) of Smithville and Alice Moseley (Aubrey) of Murfressboro.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, John Parsley of Smithville, Rebecca Skipworth (Shane) of Huntsville, Ala., Sarah Parsley, Julie Wolfe (Tony) and Rachel Peters (Kyle) of Murfreesboro; one great grandson, Mason Peters; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ervin and Jeannette Ervin.
Funeral services were Sept. 21 at First Baptist Church. Reverend Mark Bass and Dr. Bill Palmiter officiated with burial following at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Our family was truly blessed to have such wonderful people working with him and we will always be grateful for the phenomenal health care that was provided with warmth and loving care.
