Jerry L. "Buckwheat' Johnson, 70, of Smithville, passed away Thursday June 27 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville.
He was born March 18, 1949 to his parents, the late Wilson B. and Emma Lee Taylor Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Hobbs; grandson, Caylix Johnson; brother, Ray Johnson and sister, Dorothy Haggard.
He owned and operated Model City Auto Sales and was in the trucking business. Buckwheat is survived by son, Chad Johnson of Smithville; seven grandchildren, Bentley Hobbs, Brantley Johnson, Carmen Johnson, Aspen Johnson, Emma Johnson, Makira Johnson and Kelvin Reagan; son-in-law, Josh Hobbs; two sisters, Kathleen Mahler and Era Billings both of Sparta; former wife and mother of his children, Judy Johnson of Smithville.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 30 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Michael Hale officiating. Burial followed in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Carmon Johnson, Austin Taylor, Jeff Rankhorn, Thomas Snow, Allen England, Josh Craven. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
