John Kirk "Burdell" Maxwell, age 77, of Mentone, AL passed away Sunday night, August 8, 2021 at his residence. 

 He was a Methodist, U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam, member of the American Legion and a farmer. 

 He was born November 9, 1943 to his parents, the late Edgar Odell and Rubye Jewel Lowe Maxwell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Ashford Maxwell; sister, Delmaleen Key and brother, Melvin Maxwell. 

 Mr. Maxwell is survived by four children, Kirk Vincent Maxwell of Birmingham, AL, Brenda (Nelson) Kerby of Mentone, AL, Christopher Allen Maxwell of Belvidere, TN and Steven Matthew (Kari) Maxwell of Belvidere, TN; eight grandchildren, Kristen Maxwell, Megan (BJ) Miller, Amanda Patrick, Tristan Maxwell, Vlad Maxwell, Kaden Maxwell, Hunter MAxwell and Chase Maxwell; seven great-grandchildren, Heath, Adam, Adalyn, Huckleberry, Luke, Granger and Katlyn; a sister, Marceen Davis of Smithville. 

 Funeral service was held Friday, August 13, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jim McAfee officiating and burial followed in DeKalb Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. 

 DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
