Johnny Elmer Poss Jr., age 83 of Dowelltown, passed away early Thursday morning, January 16, 2025 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

He was a retired construction worker and loved to be on the farm. 

He was born on March 27, 1941 in Smithville. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Johnny Poss Sr. and Lilly Estil Young Poss, and wife, Sara Ann Poss.

Survivors include his son, Barry (Barbara) Poss of Dowelltown; two daughters, Melisa (Homer) Petty of Smithville and Sherry Poss of Dowelltown; six grandchildren, Felicia Walker, Billy Strickland, Anthony Petty, Misty Ferrell, Andy Checchi and Karrie Johnson; six great-grandchildren; Cody Strickland, Destiny Strickland, Zena Walker, Danielle Walker, Katrina Walker and TJ Walker. 

Funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with Bro. Garry Osbourne officiating. Burial followed n Whorton Springs Cemetery. 

Pallbearers included Kenny, Josh and Donnie Barnes, Sedric Cruse, Bobby Poss and TJ Walker.

Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
