Oreatha Prichard Keirns, 92, of Alexandria, passed away Sept. 20.

 

Born, January 24, 1922 to the late William Prichard and Daisy Smith Prichard, she grew up in the Alexandria area.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A Keirns and her brother, J.C. Prichard.

 

She is survived by her brother Grady Prichard; daughters, Pat Ashworth and Lynne Dickerson; her sons, Harry D. Keirns and David Keirns; grandchildren, Brian Garay, LaDonna Evins, Valery Perry, Rebecca Smith, Gregory Keirns, Eva Keirns; great-grandchildren, Brian Evins, Mason McDonald, Donna Marie Evins, and Dallas Smith.

 

Oreatha loved to travel and was passionate about reading and literacy. She worked for the DeKalb County Library system for many years, including an outreach program taking books to areas of the county that had no library nearby and a radio story hour.

 

A celebration of her life was held at the family’s home on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014.
