Mary Elizabeth Bailey, age 86, of Liberty departed this life on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Smithville.

She was a member of Faith Congregational Methodist Church in Dowelltown. Mary worked as a seamstress at Work Wear in Alexandria for many years.

She was born in Liberty, Tn. Oct. 9, 1937 to parents Frank and Lula Mae Bass Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Bailey; son, Tony Bailey; and siblings, Anna Laura Young, Janice Davis, Billy Stone and Ernest Stone.

She is survived by her daughter, Melinda Tallent of Smithville; grandchildren, Sabra (Jeremy) Murphy of Smithville, Chris (Brandi) Cantrell of Crossville, and Leslie Bailey(Jay Ellis) of Alexandria; great-grandchildren Braya Murphy (Haden Cripps) of Cookeville, Briahna Murphy of Smithville, Caleb Cantrell and Dylan Cantrell of Crossville, and Kayleigh Goodman of Alexandria; two siblings, Bobbie (Charles) Fite of Lebanon and Joe Stone of Smithville; daughter-in-law, Connie Bailey of Alexandria; and special friend, Jimmy Carter.

Funeral service was held Saturday, November 25, 2023. Bro. Mark Miller officiated and interment followed at Hillview Cemetery

Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, was in charge of the arrangements.
