Mr. Jimmy Maurice Tubbs, affectionately known as "JT", was born June 27, 1948. He was the oldest of 8 children born to the late Edward Tubbs. Jr. & Dorothy Marion Tubbs. He was born in Lebanon, TN at Martha Gaston Hospital. 

 

Jimmy attended the first African American School Rosenwald in Alexandria, TN in his early years. He also attended Wilson County Training High School in Lebanon, TN until segregation was abolished in DeKalb County. He then attended DeKalb County High School where he graduated class of 1966. 

 

Jimmy was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He served as a Private First Class. He was a member of the 4th Infantry Division Stationed in Vietnam. Jimmy was injured March of 1969.

Upon his return home, he married Jacqueline Hancock in February of 1971. From this union, a daughter was born, Andrea Charese Tubbs. 

 

Jimmy gave his life to Christ and became a member of Grace Bible Church. Despite his injuries, he defied all odds at every turn. He continued to live life to the fullest. 

 

He is preceded in death by 2 brother-in-laws, Floyd League, Jr. & Lewis L. Bass & 1 niece, Martisha A. League. Jimmy is survived by his Daughter, Andrea (Harold) Keeley & his adoptive Daughter, Tori Garrett. 2 Grandchildren, Jalissa (Damion Roddy) Tubbs & Kierra Tubbs. 1 Great Grandson, Jamion Maurice Hendrix Roddy. Brother, Eddie (Maureen) Tubbs. 2 Cousins/Brothers, Ronald (Angela) Eddings & Billie Don (Nancy) Bohannon. 6 Sisters, Doris League, Sandra Bass, Brenda Savage, Linda Gail Neal, Yvette (Randall) Carver & Tina (Bryan) Tubbs-Peebles. 4 Nieces & 4 Nephews, Host of Great Nieces /Nephews, Great Great Nieces/Nephews, Cousins  & Friends. 

 

Funeral service was Saturday, July 17, 2021 from the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Deacon Darren Dilligard, Deacon Billie Don Bohannon & Eulogist, Bro. Roy Cason officiate and burial followed at Dowell Cemetery in Alexandria with Military Honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. 

 

Pallbearers included Maurice Tubbs, Deandre Bass, LaTaj Bass, Jalene Dilligard, Marquis Bass, Phillip Rutland & Dennis Bass. Honorary Pallbearers, Don Edward League, Charles Mount, William C. Tubbs Jr., Ronnie Myers, Lavar Bass, Judy Cullom, Tracey Neal & Dakota Carver.

 

Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of arrangements.
