Nicholas Frederick Axen, age 85, of Smithville passed away on January 9, 2025 at Smithville NHC.

He was supervisor of several paper companies, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and a member of Monetary United Methodist Church.

He was born on February 2, 1939 in Buffalo, NY to his parents, the late Elmer and Mildred Axel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Norene. 

The family has honored his wishes of cremation. 

Survivors include his wife, Joan Pollard Axen of Smithville; three daughters, Sandra Hammons of Trussville, AL, Wendy Sims of Smithville, and Heather Axel of Ulverston, England; four grandchildren, Lauren Sims, Bethany Bogle, Danny Hammons, and Devin Anderson;  and six great-grandchildren, Landon Colwell, Makayla Colwell, Nicolas Bogle, Zalyn Crowell, Evan Sims, and Brinley Dabbs. 

Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
