Funeral services for J.C. "Buck" Vanatta, 87, of Dowelltown were held Oct. 10 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bro. Michael Hale officiated, with burial following in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

 

He passed away Oct. 6 at Skyline Medical Center.

 

He was born May 24, 1927 to the late Charlie and Parthena Bennett Vanatta.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Herman, and Maureen Jones; four brothers, Ernest, Howard, Eugens, and Loyd Vanatta.

 

He was a construction worker and a Baptist.

 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Vanatta of Dowelltown; two sisters, Frances Gilley of Nashville, and Sue (Tom) Lassiter of Smithville; several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Pallbearers included; T.J. Hendrixson, David Colwell, Robert Atnip, Eddie Herman, Todd Lassiter, and Trey Hill.

 

Honorary Pallbearers; Tom Lassiter, and Guylene Atnip.

 

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements
