Modest raise better for school board?

To the Editor:

To verify the accuracy of this commentary, please consult the Nov. 16 issue of the Smithville Review. On Nov. 10, five members present at the monthly meeting of the DeKalb county board of Education voted 5-0 to increase each member’s salary by $100 per meeting.

A modest boost in pay for each elected official would have seemed more realistic self-remuneration. Improvement of wages at $25 more would have been a wiser choice. Truly, decision making that is of paramount value always must be focused on what is best for DeKalb county students.

Ive calculated the annual savings that will occur if a $25 monthly raise for each of the seven board members had been enacted. Roughly $6,000 is the amount recouped for student benefits.

A well-informed school system leader recently verified that a $6,000 savings assessment is after we discussed this matter. Please consider sharing your thoughts about the situation with a scholl-board member.
