When a mass attack happens, people who do not look white wait tensely to learn about the attacker. If he is brown, the President will tweet about shutting the doors of this country to anyone who looks vaguely like the perpetrator, even if he was born here.
When the shooter is once again a white man, does the President demand that we closely monitor them for violent tendencies? Does he react with the same fervor that he does to attacks perpetrated by brown people and call for white men to have their ability to purchase large amounts of deadly firearms limited?
No. He does not. He does not treat white men the same way he treats brown people by equating the actions of one person with everyone he thinks looks like that person, or shares the same faith as that person.
Rather than addressing the reality, that overwhelmingly in America it is American born men (and there seem to be a lot of them) who commit mass murders, domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, President Trump sends his condolences to the families and does NOTHING.
The rest of us keep living with the reality that we could be shot at church or a concert, or sexually assaulted by our boss at work. The President has little interest in addressing the way we raise our boys and how we deal with mental health or access to weapons. I hope other Americans will make it a priority and stop scapegoating innocent people for their appearance or faith.
