The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes got back to their dominating ways last week, scoring a pair of wins against district opponents. The girls put down Livingston Academy in a home game, then traveled to Cumberland County where they made quick work of the Lady Jets.

On Tuesday, April 18, the Tigerettes were on their home field where they hosted the visiting Lady Wildcats. DeKalb would go on to score in every inning in the game.

The Tigerettes got on the board first at the bottom of the first after Madison Martin singled on a line drive to left field. Morgan Walker stepped to the plate, and after Martin stole second Walker doubled on a line drive to left, sending Martin home.

At the bottom of the second, Aniston Farler reached on a grounder and an error by short, then Aly Griffith sacrificed to the catcher as Farler took second. Elaina Turner was up next and singled on a line drive to right as Farler scored. The Tigerettes were up 2-0.

The Lady Wildcats would get on the board at the top of the third with one run, but DeKalb would fire back as they came to bat. Walker hit a single grounder to center, then stole second as Bri Murphy was at the plate. Later, Martin stole third as Emma Martin was at the plate, then Martin singled on a ground ball to left as Walker crossed the home. The Tigerettes were up 3-1.

The Tigerettes would increase their lead at the bottom of the fourth with two more runs. Griffith singled on a line drive to center and would later steal second. Bryna Pelham later singled on a line to left as Griffith scored, then Madison Martin tripled on a line drive to right as Pelham crossed the plate. DeKalb held a 5-1 lead.

At the top of the fifth, the Lady Wildcats attempted to get back in the game, scoring two runs and cutting the Tigerettes’ lead 5-3, but DeKalb would nail the coffin shut as they came to bat.

Murphy reached on a line drive and an error by left field, then Emma Martin doubled on a line drive to left as Murphy scored. Farler was up next, and singled on a ground ball to third, then Griffith singled on a grounder to second as Martin scored and Farler took third.

Later, Zayleigh Bain doubled on a fly to left as Farler and Griffith scored, then Pelham would get a walk. Madison Martin stepped to the plate and singled on a grounder to short as Bain touched home. Walker was up next and singled on a grounder to first as Pelham scored and Martin took second.

The bases would be loaded after Murphy took a HBP, then Emma Martin got a walk allowing Madison Martin to touch the plate. Griffith would later take a HBP allowing Murphy to score and the game was called giving DeKalb the 13-3 victory.

Kora Kilgore was the winning pitcher, going five innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, striking out eight and walking one.

The following Thursday, the Tigerettes were on the road, this time taking on the Lady Jets. It would be a short game.

The Tigerettes took a massive lead at the top of the first thanks to some bad pitching by Cumberland County. Pelham, Bain, Murphy and Gracie Randolph would all get on base with walks to start the game, then Kilgore hit a grounder to fielder’s choice at third, catching Murphy at third. After that, Chloe Lawson and Sydney Polk would each walk, followed by Makayla Scales taking a HBP. Chaylea Lunsford would then walk, followed by Pelham singling on a grounder to right as Polk and Scales scoring.

Bain would single on a fly to short as Pelham and Lunsford scored. Murphy would take a HBP, then Randolph singled on a grounder to left as Bain and Murphy scored. Before the Lady Jets could get off the field, DeKalb was up 11-0.

It would be more of the same at the top of the second, with Polk taking a HBP, and Scales and Lunsford each getting a walk. Pelham would then single on a ground ball to right as Polk and Scales scored, then Bain and Murphy would walk. Randolph stepped to the plate and Pelham would score on a wild pitch. Randolph then doubled on a line drive to left.

Olivia Gilley, Chloe Lawson and Polk would each walk, then Scales grounded out to the pitcher, as Gilley scored. Lawson would score on a wild pitch, then Lunsford reached on a dropped third strike as Polk scored. In one and a half innings, the Tigerettes were up 20-0.

The Lady Jets just could not get anything going and would go three up, three down at the bottom of the second.

Meanwhile, the Tigerettes would ice their score at the top of the third with four more runs. Pelham, Bain, Murphy and Randolph would all walk, then Gilley singled on a grounder to right as Randolph scored. Gilley would score on an error by second base as Lawson was up to bat, then Lawson lined out to first. DeKalb commanded a 24-0 lead.

The Lady Jets would have one more at bat but the Tigerettes held on for the 24-0 shutout. Bri Murphy took the win from the circle for DeKalb.
