It was another tough week for the DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers basketball team as they went on the road to face White County, then come home on Saturday for a makeup game against Stone Memorial.
On Friday, January 26, the girls were in Sparta to take on a tough Warriorettes team, a team they had fallen to earlier in the month 89-49. This game would have a similar outcome.
The Lady Tigers would come away with just three points in the first quarter, all from free throws. Cam Branin sank one free throw shot, while Ella VanVranken hit two. White County would dominate with 17 points on the board.
DeKalb managed 13 points in the second period. Ella VanVranken hit three two-point baskets and a free throw, while sister Chloe had one two-pointer and a free throw. Avery Agee added a three-point shot. The Warriorettes added 18 to the scoreboard, taking a 35-16 halftime lead.
Ella VanVranken repeated in the third period with three more two-pointers and a free throw, while Chloe had a pair of free throw points. Agee had a three-point shot and a couple of free throws. White County kept rolling with 16 more points and the 51-30 lead.
Agee hit a three-pointer for the Lady Tigers in the fourth, while Chloe and Ella each had a two-point basket. White County would add 20 and claim the 71-37 win.
The following Saturday, the Lady Tigers were back on their home court to take on visiting Stone Memorial for a snow day makeup game. DeKalb would keep the game close early on, but the Lady Panthers would pull away late.
The Lady Tigers scored 17 in the first period with Ella VanVranken hitting three two-point shots, a pair of three-pointers, and a free throw, while Tess Barton had a couple of two-point baskets. Stone Memorial stayed close with 16 points.
Ella had a two-pointer, a three-pointer, and a free throw for DeKalb in the second period, while Allie Melton had a two-pointer and a free throw. Branin and Chloe VanVranken each had a pair of free throw points. The Lady Panthers came away with 22 points and the 38-30 halftime lead.
DeKalb took shots in the third but just could hit the hoop. Chloe VanVranken sank a three-pointer and a couple of free throws, while Agee had a three-pointer of her own. Stone Memorial added 11 to the board, taking the 49-38 lead.
Ella VanVranken came away with three two-pointers and four free throws for the Lady Tigers in the fourth, while Agee added a two-pointer and a couple of free throws. Chloe had a two-point basket, while Barton added a pair of free throws. The Lady Panthers added 14 to the board, claiming the 63-56 win.
