With bad weather and the prom being held on Friday evening, the DeKalb Tigers baseball team managed to get two games on the books last week, playing Upperman at home on Tuesday before going on the road on Wednesday.
In the Tuesday game, the Bees would get on the board first, scoring one run at the top of the first.
DeKalb would take the lead after their first at bat, after singles by Dallas Kirby and Tucker Webb. Evan Prichard grounded out to short, but allowed Kirby to touch the plate, then Luke Johnson doubled on a line drive to right, as Webb scored. The Tigers were up, 2-1, but it would be the last points DeKalb would see.
Upperman scored two runs at the top of the second, three at the top of the third, four in the sixth, and three in the seventh to claim the 13-2 win.
The game on Wednesday would be no better. Upperman would take the 4-0 lead at the bottom of the first, score one more at the bottom of the second, and four at the bottom of the fourth.
DeKalb wouldn’t get on the board until the top of the fifth after a double line drive to left by Evan Prichard sent Kirby home. Luke Johnson would single on a line drive to center and Prichard took third, then Prichard would steal home as Silas Kirksey was up to bat. DeKalb had cut the lead, 9-2.
The Tigers would manage one more run at the top of the seventh, after a triple fly to center by Kirby. Prichard would single on a line drive to center sending Kirby home. That would be as far as they would get. Upperman took the 9-3 win.
