The DeKalb West School Bulldogs baseball team was back on the diamond last week, playing a couple of games in front of the hometown crowd before going on the road last Thursday.

On Monday, March 10, the Bulldogs were on their home field as they welcomed the Smith County Owls. DWS would take the early lead, but Smith would try to rally late.

The Bulldogs would get on the board first, scoring one run at the bottom of the second inning. Maddux Pyburn would get a walk, and later, Logan Gard hit a ground ball and reached on an error by short as Zayne Thomas, running for Pyburn, came home.

The Owls would tie the game with one run at the top of the third, but the Bulldogs would come roaring back at their next at bat, taking a big lead.

Reed Midgett singled on a grounder to short, followed by Collin Donnell reaching on a fly and an error at left. Midgett would make his way home on the play. Gavin Frazier then reached on a fly and an error by second, followed by a walk for Zander Simpson. Pyburn would ground out at second, but Donnell would touch home plate, then Brantley Brooks singled on a fly to left as Frazier scored. The Bulldogs were up 4-1.

Smith County kept the game close, scoring two runs at the top of the fourth, but the Bulldogs added another run at the bottom of the inning. Keegan Taylor hit a triple fly to left, and would later score on a wild pitch as Midgett was up to bat.

The game would go to the top of the fifth, but DWS would hang on for the 5-3 victory. Pyburn earned the win for the Bulldogs from the mound, giving up three hits and one run over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one.

The following day, the home crown was back in the stands at DeKalb West as the Bulldogs hosted the Prescott Middle School Bulldogs. Again, the game would be close early, but DeKalb would pull away late.

Prescott would get on the board first, scoring one run at the top of the first inning. The DWS Bulldogs evened things up as they came to bat, with Taylor reaching on a grounder and an error at first, then Midgett singling on a grounder to short. Taylor would score after Donnell singled on a fly to right.

Prescott reclaimed the lead with two runs at the top of the third, but DWS would take the lead as they came to bat. Midgett singled on a hard ground ball to center, and would take third after Donnell doubled on a fly to left. Frazier would load the bases with a walk, then Zander Simpson singled on a line drive to left, as Midgett and Donnell each scored. Hayden Quarles would later get a walk, then Frazier would score on an error by third, and Aiden Cook, running for Pyburn, would score on a passed ball as Gard was up to bat. Gard would ground out to second, but DWS was up 5-3.

DeKalb West would pad their lead at the bottom of the fourth, scoring three more runs. Taylor doubled on a fly to left, then Midgett got a HBP. Taylor would score on a passed ball as Donnell was up to bat, and later Midgett scored after Frazier doubled on a fly to left field. Simpson would then single on a grounder to the pitcher as Frazier scored. Prescott got off the field, but DeKalb was up 8-3.

On Thursday, March 13, the team was on the road, this time facing Prescott on their home field. It would be another good day for DWS.
