Bulldogs Dominate on the Diamond
Luke Midgett
In a game against Livingston, Luke Midgett readies for a big hit.

The DeKalb West School Bulldogs Baseball team were back on the field last week, taking a big win over Watertown. The team jumped out to a big lead in the second inning, and never looked back.

Watertown got on the board first, after a line drive to left field resulted in a runner coming home, but the Bulldogs would match the score at their first at bat. Ty Webb reached after a ground ball and an error by the shortstop. Then, Tyler Jackson singled on a line drive to right field, then advanced to second off of an error as Webb crossed home plate. At the end of one, the game was tied 1-1.

Watertown would add one more to the board in the second inning, after a single on as line drive to left fielder Jon Hendrix resulted in a RBI.

Undaunted, as the Bulldogs came up to bat at the bottom of the second, DWS would put some distance in the game. A single by Devin Fish resulted in one run, and a little later a hard grounder to left field by Dallas Kirby sent Fish and Jordan Parker home. After that, a double by Ty Webb sent Kirby across the plate. Then, after Jackson was walked, both Webb and Jackson would advance and eventually steal home. At the end of two, DWS was up 7-2.

The Bulldogs would hold Watertown to a three and out in the third, then go on to add more points to the board. With bases loaded, Andrew Dakas walked across home, then Jackson singled on a line drive to right field, driving Parker and Kirby home. A little later, Ty Webb would score again, stealing home on a wild pitch. At the end of three, the Bulldogs commanded a 11-2 lead.

Once again Watertown was held to a three and out, and DWS took advantage and added one more to the scoreboard. Watertown would have one more opportunity at the top of the fifth, but would not be able to get anything going. The Bulldogs took the 12-2 victory.

Jackson took the win for the Bulldogs, pitching five innings, with six hits and two runs, striking out nine and walking none.

The following day, the Bulldogs faced off with Watertown again, this time on Watertown’s home field.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the first inning after Dallas Kirby stole home off of a wild pitch, then Tyler Jackson singled, driving Ty Webb home. Jackson would later get a steal of home himself on a wild pitch. DWS was up 3-0.

Watertown got on the board also at their first at bats, scoring their first run on a wild pitch by Jordan Parker, but the Bulldogs came right back, scoring a run off of a Parker sacrifice fly, sending Andrew Dakas home. Watertown could do nothing at their bat, and at the end of two DWS was up 4-1.

The game wouldn’t heat up again until the top of the seventh inning, when would grab a single knocking Dakas and Parker home. Watertown had one more at bat, but would be unable to get things going. The Bulldogs took the 6-1 win.

Parker took the win, with seven hits and one run in seven innings, walking three and striking out 10. Kirby lead at the plate, getting three hits in four at bats, with two RBIs.

The following Friday the Bulldogs were back at home, this time facing Livingston Middle School. DWS would take the lead early, then increase in the third inning.

At the bottom of the first inning, Jordan Parker would walk then proceed to steal his way around the diamond. As Tyler Webb came up to bat, Parker stole home on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs were up, 1-0.

Things wouldn't heat up again until the bottom of the third inning. After Parker was walked again, Dallas Kirby singled on a line drive to left field, and Tyler Webb was hit by a pitch. Tyler Jackson then grounded into fielder's choice with Parker out at home. Next, Kirby stole home after a wild pitch, then Westley Kent singled on a grounder to shortstop, as Webb and Jackson come home. The Bulldogs were up, 4-0.

And that's where the score would stay. The game would go to the top of the fifth, but Livingston could not get on the board. Kirby took the win on the mound, with four hits and four strikeouts, in five innings.
