The DeKalb West School Bulldogs has had a wonderful season so far, that is until it ran into a wall with the Avery Trace Raiders. The team played a two-game series last week, first hosting the Raiders before going on the road on Thursday.
In the first game on Tuesday, Eighth Grade Night at DeKalb West School, the Raiders took the early lead, scoring two runs at the top of the first inning, then scoring two more runs at the top of the fourth, and three at the top of the fifth.
The Bulldogs would get moving until bottom of the fifth. Hayden Quarles singled on a fly to left, followed by a walk for Logan Gard. Keegan Taylor stepped up next and doubled on a fly to left as Quarles scored, then Reed Midgett loaded the bases with a walk. Collin Donnell grounded out to third, but Gard would score, then Gavin Frazier grounded out to second as Taylor touched home.
Unfortunately, that would be as far as DeKalb would get. Avery Trace would get off the field and claim the 7-3 win. Midgett took the loss going five innings giving up seven runs on nine hits, striking out seven and walking four.
The following Thursday would not go the Bulldogs’ way either. Avery Trace scored one run in the first inning, and three in the third to claim the 4-0 shutout. Maddux Pyburn took the loss from the mound, going four innings and surrendering four runs on three hits, striking out one and walking two.
