The DeKalb West School basketball teams were in action last week, taking part in the Forks River tournament.
On Tuesday, November 5, the Bulldogs took to the court and faced off with Caroll Oakland. It would be a tough game for DeKalb.
The Bulldogs would only come away with three points in the first period, with a two-pointer by Landon Holmes and a free throw by Maddux Pyburn. Oakland would put 10 on the board.
Pyburn sank a pair of free throws for DWS in the second, while Holmes had one. Oakland added seven and took a 17-6 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs finally got moving in the third period with 17 points. Levi Cripps scored on a pair of three-point baskets, while Pyburn had a couple of twos and three free throws. Holmes also added a couple free throws, while Lucas Nokes sank a two-pointer. Oakland added 11 to the board.
DWS would be held scoreless in the fourth while Oakland added two. Caroll Oakland took the 30-22 win.
The Lady Bulldogs also took on Caroll Oakland with much the same result. DWS was held off the board in the first period, while Oakland put 13 on the board.
Kaylee Womack and Adysen Olivas each had a two-pointer for DeKalb in the second period, while Oakland also scored four.
Womack scored on a pair of free throws for the Lady Bulldogs in the third, while Oakland added seven to their tally. Oakland was up, 24-6.
Womack would add one more two-pointer to the board for DWS in the fourth period. Oakland finished with eight and the 34-8 win.
On Thursday, the Bulldogs faced off with Union Heights and came away with a close win.
DWS scored nine points in the first period, all from Maddux Pyburn baskets. He hit four two-point shots and one free throw. UHS scored 13 with the early lead.
The Bulldogs pulled ahead in the second period, with Pyburn hitting on a pai of two-point baskets and a free throw, while Levi Cripps had a three pointer and Landon Holmes a couple of two-pointers. Union Heights was held to four, giving DeKalb West the 21-17 halftime lead.
Holmes sank a three-pointer for the Bulldogs in the third period, while Cripps and Pyburn each had a two-point shot. UHS matched DWS point for point with the Bulldogs keeping the 28-24 lead.
It was almost a repeat for DWS in the fourth with Holmes hitting a three, while Cripps added a two-point basket. Pyburn also had another two-point shot, but added two free throw points. UHS was held to five, giving DeKalb the 37-31 win and third place in the tournament.
