The DeKalb County High School Tigers, Lady Tigers, and DCHS Basketball Cheerleaders held their annual banquet last Thursday evening at the DeKalb Community Complex, where several honors and awards were presented.
DeKalb Tigers’ Senior Ethan Roller was named the DCHS Tiger Basketball MVP, while Lady Tigers’ Senior Paige Winningham and Junior Loren Cripps were named Lady Tigers Co-MVP. Senior Captain Ashley Medlin was presented the Most Valuable Cheerleader Award.
Roller scored 1,190 points as a DCHS Tiger, leading the mid-state this season with 111 three points shots made. Roller was also honored as the Best Offensive Player, and was named to the All-District 1st Team.
Roller was joined by other Tigers honored that evening including Eli Lomas for Best Defender and Smartest Player, and Steven Jennings for Best Athlete, and Best Free Throw Shooter. Jennings was also named to the All District 3rd Team and as the District Freshman Player of Year.
Kalab Ferrell took the award for Best Rebounder, while Best Ball Handler and Best Passer went to Aaron Patterson. Jonathon Munoz was named Best Practice Player, while the Best Sixth Man Award went to Austin Frazier. Most Improved Player was Justin Bone, who also got an All District Honorable Mention, while Kaleb Ferrell won Best Attitude and the Hustle Award.
Lady Tigers’ MVP Winningham was also awarded Best Offensive Player and Best Passer, and was also named to the All-District 3rd Team.
MVP Cripps was also awarded Best Defensive Player, Best Foul Shooter, and Best Three-point Shooter. Cripps has scored over 1,000 points in her high school basketball career, and was named to the All-District 3rd Team.
Joining Winningham and Cripps in Lady Tiger honors were Jailyn Bolding for Best Hustle and the Coaches Award, Morgan Pedigo with the Tiger Award, MaKenzie Poteete for Best Attitude and Most Improved, Katie Hall for Best Rebounder, and Ashli Chew for Best Ball Handler.
MVC Ashley Medlin was joined by other cheerleader that were honored at the event, including Chloe White for Most Spirit, Aspen Flarity for Most Improved, Kara Kanipe for Best Jumps, Kenzie Morris for Best Dance, Maggie Mahaffey for Best Stunts, Taneah Cantrell for Best Attitude, and Allison Rogers for the Spirit-Team-Attitude-Respect (STAR) Award.
The MVP and MVC awards were named in memory Allen D. Hooper, and were sponored by Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.
Fan awards included Charles Parsley, who was named the Tiger Basketball Fan of the Year, while Jordan Wilkins was named the Lady Tiger Fan of the Year award.
