DeKalb County was well represented at the Tennessee Youth Baseball Association State Tournament last weekend in Murfreesboro. Several teams played some good games, not taking the top spots, but coming close.

In the 5-6-year-old division, the DeKalb County Coach Pitch Tigers got their championship bid off right on Friday night with a thrilling 17-16 win over the Shelbyville Bronx Bombers. The game came down to a game winning RBI from Kora Kilgore.

On Saturday, the Tigers split their games, pounding Country Boy Fencing 28-5 in their first game, then falling to the Eagleville Skeeters in their final contest of the evening. The team went on as the second seed in the tournament for Sunday’s games, but fell to Unionville in single elimination

In the 3-4-year-old division, the DeKalb County Little Ducks played their first game of the TYBA Tournament on Friday night. The young team played well, but fell short to the Murfreesboro Mayhem in an exciting game.

DeKalb County’s other t-ball team, the DeKalb County Misfits, took on the Mayhem in a contest next, but lost by only one. The Misfits went 1-1 on Saturday in the championships, defeating in-county rival the Little Ducks 13-3 in the opener before falling, once again, by only one run to the Mayhem, 17-16. Mayhem took the championship, while the Misfits took second place. The Lil Ducks were third.

In the 7-9-year-old girls’ softball division, the DeKalb Razors beat the Unionville Crushers on Saturday, 13-7, while the DTC Diamonds won over the Lascassas Twisters, 18-7. The Razors would later play the Lady Eagles, falling 14-2. The Lady Eagles would end up winning the championship, with DeKalb’s own DTC Diamonds coming in second place.

In the 9-10-year-old baseball division, DeKalb County Baseball won over the Christiana Crushers, 10-6, on Saturday, after beating the Cannon County All-stars. Unionville would come away with the championship, with Shelbyville coming in second.

In the 13-16-year-old kid pitch open division, DeKalb County Baseball beat the Christiana Crush 11-1 on Saturday. The Putnam County Babe Ruth League would come away with the championship, while DeKalb came in second.
