The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes Softball Team is winding down their season, playing a couple of district games last week, as well as participating in a tournament in Coffee County.
On April 23, were on their home field taking on Cannon County. The match would be an easy game for DeKalb, taking the win in four and a half innings.
The Tigerettes scored four runs in the first inning, and they just kept going from there. The team scored another six in the second inning, and another four in the fourth. DeKalb’s defense was tough, keeping Cannon away from the scoreboard, and giving them the shutout, 14-0.
DeKalb had 12 hits for 14 runs, and zero errors, while Cannon had two hits, and one error. Kayley Caplinger was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts.
Tyra Graham and Chelsey Brannon each had a single and a double in the game, while Danielle Tyson had a single and a triple. Katie Hall and Lauren Colwell each had two singles, while Loren Cripps and Hannah Walker each had one.
The following day the team was again at home, playing Smith County in their last home game of the season and hosting Senior Night at the field. Those seniors honored between the regular game and the JV game were Chelsey Brannon, Lauren Colwell, Shauna Taylor and Danielle Tyson. The girls were given awards marking the occasion and framed photos of them on the field.
During the game, the team once again showed their dominance on the field. The Tigerettes scored four in the first inning, two in the second, and four in the third. Smith did not touch home until the third inning, scoring one run. The game would run through six and a half innings, but the defense would hold strong, giving DeKalb a 10-1 victory.
The Tigerettes had 10 hits for 10 runs, with two errors, while Smith County had five hits, one run, and zero errors. Caplinger was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts.
Graham and Dani Meadows each had a double in the game, while Colwell and Taylor each had two singles. Tyson, Hall, Brannon and Caplinger each had a single.
On April 25, the Tigerettes traveled to Coffee County to take part in the Coffee County Tournament. DeKalb’s first match would pit them against a team from Marion County, and the game would be a battle from the start.
DeKalb struck first, getting three runs in the first inning, but Marion came back in the second, scoring four and taking the lead. The Tigerettes tied things up in the fourth, but would fall by one run in the fifth inning.
The Tigerettes had six hits, for four runs, and zero errors, while Marion had seven hits for five runs, and zero errors. Colwell was the losing pitcher.
Tyson, Hall, Colwell and Walker each had a single during the game, while Meadows had a double, and Brannon had a triple.
That same day, the team faced Tullahoma in a tough, low-scoring game. The Tigerettes scored one run in the first inning, and that would be the one and only score of the entire game. Tyson was the winning pitcher, with nine strikeouts. DeKalb had two hits for one run, and zero errors, while Tullahoma had three hits and zero errors.
Meadows and Graham each had a single in the game.
The following day, the team was back in action at the tournament, once again taking on Tullahoma.
This game would be more decisive for DeKalb than the previous match. The Tigerettes scored four runs in the first inning, one in the second, and another in the fourth. The defense would also keep Tullahoma away from home, giving the team a 6-0 win.
DeKalb had three hits for six runs, and zero errors, while Tullahoma had zero hits and five errors. Taylor was the winning pitcher with a no-hitter.
Graham and Tyson each had a single in the game, while Meadows had a homerun.
That same day, the Tigerettes played Daniel Boone and took yet another win. DeKalb scored two in the first inning, and one more in the fourth, all while keeping DB from the scoreboard.
DeKalb had three runs, with five hits and three errors, while Daniel Boone had five hits, and zero errors. Colwell was the winning pitcher.
Tyson had two singles in the game, while Hall and Colwell each had one. Meadows had a double.
The Tigerettes next played Baylor in a tough game. Baylor took the lead, scoring one in the first inning, and another three in the second. DeKalb battled through three innings, before finally getting on the board with one run in the fourth. The Tigerettes would suffer another loss, 4-1.
DeKalb had two hits for one run, and one error, while Baylor had seven hits for four runs, and zero errors. Tyson was the losing pitcher.
Graham and Tyson each had a single in the game.
