The DeKalb Middle School Saints and Lady Saints wrapped up their regular season last week, culminating in an Eighth-Grade Night celebration.
On Monday, January 13, the teams took on White County for some tough competition. In the girls’ game, the Lady Saints fell behind early and never recovered.
DMS scored seven in the first period, with Hannah Tobitt sinking a three-pointer and a free throw, while Aubree Fuson had a three-pointer of her own. White County put 15 on the board.
Emmaline Hendrix scored the lone two-point shot for the Lady Saints in the second period, while White County added 18, taking the 33-9 halftime lead.
Fuson, Paizlee Taylor, and Ezraya Gingerich each had a two-pointer for the Lady Saints in the third, while Taylynn Taylor added a free throw. White came away with 12 and the 45-16 lead.
The Lady Saints were held off the board in the fourth, while White added two, taking the 47-16 win.
The Saints would have a much closer game. DMS scored three in the first period, with a two-pointer by Reed Midgett and a free throw by Auston Parker. White was held to two points.
DMS put 10 on the board in the second, with Midgett hitting four two-point baskets, and Gavin Frazier with one. White scored eight, giving DMS the 13-10 halftime lead.
Parker hit a three for the Saints in the third period, while Frazier had a two-pointer. Hayden Quarles added a free throw point. White County scored eight, cutting the lead, 19-18.
The Saints ended the game with 13 points. Midgett had a pair of two-point shots, Skylar Herriott a three-pointer, Frazier and Parker each with a two-pointer, and Quarles had a couple of free throws. White also score 13, giving the Saints the narrow 32-31 victory.
The following night, the teams were back on their home court, this time welcoming Stone Memorial. The girls would fall behind early and never recover.
DMS scored five in the first period, with a three-point shot and a pair of free throws by Gingerich. Stone would put 20 on the board.
It was Gingerich again in the second, hitting a two and a couple of free throws. Stone added seven and claimed the 27-9 lead at the half.
Tobitt had a free throw point for the Lady Saints in the third, while Elyza Collier had two. Stone added another seven and were up 34-12.
Aubree Fuson had a two-pointer and three free throws for DeKalb in the fourth, while Aila Odom added a two-point shot. Gingerich and Aubrie Harden each had a pair of free throws. Stone ended with another seven and the 41-23 win.
Again, the Saints would have a much closer game. DMS put 10 on the board in the first period, with Quarles hitting a three-pointer and a free throw, while Parker had a three-pointer of his own. Midgett added a two-point basket. Stone was held to five.

The Saints added eight points in the third period. Midgett had a two-point basket and a pair of free throw points, while Frazier and Herriott each had a two-pointer. Stone closed the gap with 10 points. DMS was still up 25-23.
It came down to the fourth period. The Saints put 13 points on the board, with Midgett sinking three two-pointers and a couple of free throws, while Quarles had a three-point shot and a free throw. Frazier also had a free throw point. Stone would come away with 16 points and the narrow 39-38 win.
On Thursday, the teams would be in front of the home crowd for one last time, hosting Livingston on Eighth-Grade Night.
In the girls’ game, DMS scored nine to start the game. Hailey Moore sank a pair of two-point shots, Taylynn Taylor and Zoie Ashburn each had a two-pointer, and Hannah Tobitt had a free throw. Livingston score six.
The Lady Saints added six in the second period, with Taylynn Taylor, Tobitt, and Paizlee Taylor each with a two-pointer. Livingston scored 11, taking the 17-15 lead.
Taylynn Taylor scored the only points for the Lady Saints in the third, a two-point basket. Livingston moved ahead with six points and the 21-19 lead.
The Lady Saints were held scoreless in the fourth, while Livingston added five to the board. They would claim the 26-19 win.
In the boys’ game, the Saints would go up big in the first period and never look back. DMS scored 22 to start the game, with Keegan Taylor and Hayden Quarles each hitting a pair of threes, while Midgett added a couple of two-pointers and a pair of free throws. Frazier also had a couple of two-point shots. Livingston was held to just two points.
The Saints added a8 to the board in the second, with Parker sinking a couple of two-pointers and a three-point shot, while Midgett added a pair of two-pointers. Taylor had a three-point basket, while Quarles and Frazier each had a two-pointer. Livingston scored just one point, giving DMS the 40-3 lead at halftime.
DMS put another 16 on the board in the third, with Parker and Quarles each with a three, Brantley Brooks with a pair of twos, and Frazier, Sam Tobitt, and Elijah Mills each with a two-pointer. Livingston was held scoreless, giving DeKalb the 56-3 lead.
The Saints ended the game with nine points. Tobitt sank a three-point basket, while Herriott, Brooks, and Logan Gard each had a two-point shot. Livingston scored three giving the Saints the 65-6 victory.
