The DeKalb Middle School Saints and Lady Saints basketball teams wrapped up their regular season last week with a celebration of Eighth Grade Night. The teams would be on their home court where they would take on Avery Trace.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Saints would take the early lead and continue to pull away throughout. DMS scored four points in the first period, with a couple of two-point baskets by Lillie Grace Young. Avery Trace was held to two points.

The Lady Saints scored nine in the second period, with a three-pointer by Jordyn Agee and two-pointers by Olivia Derrick, Brooke Fuson, and Young. Avery was held to just three points, giving DMS the 13-5 halftime lead.

DMS came away with five points in the third period, with a two-point basket by Maggie Hendrixson, a pair a free throws by Agee and one free throw point by Young. Avery Trace was held to two. The Lady Saints were up, 18-7.

The Lady Saints sealed up the game with a pair of two-pointer by young, and a three-point shot by Agee. Avery scored three points, giving DeKalb the 25-10 win.

The boys would have a tougher night, falling behind early and never being able to catch up. The Saints scored seven in the first period, with a three-point basket by Elliot Barnes and two-pointers by Ryan Lyons and Luke Johnson. Avery Trace took the lead with nine points.

The Saints put eight points on the board in the second, with a pair of three-pointers by Barnes, and a two-point shot by J.T. Summers. Avery shot ahead with 19 points and the 28-15 lead at halftime.

DMS scored 13 in the third period. Barnes added another pair of three-pointers, while Lyons had a two and three-point shot. Kiece Hannah got on the board with a two-point basket. Avery was held nine, but still held a 37-28 lead.

The Saints scored 12 points in the fourth, with Hannah added three two-point shots, while Cooper Odom got on the board with a three-pointer and a free throw. Barnes also had a two-point basket. Avery was held to 10, but it was enough for the 47-40 win.
