The DeKalb Middle School basketball teams closed out their season last week with a couple of road victories against Gladeville Middle School.
In the Lady Saints' game, DMS took the early lead and never looked back. Dare Collins scored a two and three-point basket, as well as a free throw for the Lady Saints in the first quarter, while Avery Agee had a three-point shot and Bella Dakas had a pair of free throw shots. Gladeville was held to just five points.
The Lady Saints were even better in the second quarter, with Collins coming away with a pair of two-point baskets and three free throw points, while Laurie Rigsby had a two-pointer and a free throw. Larisa Mooneyham had a two-point basket, with Chloe VanVraken getting a couple of free throws, and Agee getting one. Gladeville was held to 10 points, giving DMS the 26-15 halftime lead.
Again, Collins was the lead scorer for the Lady Saints in the third quarter, sinking a pair of two-point baskets, while VanVraken and Agee each had one. Gladeville cut into the lead however, getting 13 points. DMS was still up, 34-28.
Mooneyham had a two-pointer and a couple of free throws for the Lady Saints in the fourth quarter, while Rigsby had a two-pointer of her own. Agee and VanVraken each added a couple of free throw points to the board. Gladeville matched DMS point for point, but it was too much for them. The Lady Saints took the win, 44-38.
The boys would also end their season with a victory. Like the girls, the Saints would take the early lead and never let it go. Devin Fish had a pair of three-point baskets in the first quarter, while Jordan Parker and Owen Snipes each had a two-point shot. Gladeville was held to just four points.
It was all Snipes for the Saints in the second quarter. He scored two two-pointers and a couple of free throw points. Gladeville scored eight points, but DMS held the 16-12 halftime lead.
The Saints scored nine points in the third quarter. Snipes had a two-pointer and a free throw, while Parker and Maddox Hale each sank a three-point basket. Gladeville was held to four points, giving DMS a 25-16 lead.
Dallas Kirby had a two-pointer and a pair of free throws for the Saints in the fourth quarter, while Snipes had a two-pointer and one free throw point. Cody Love also added a point from a free throw. Gladeville scored eight points, far from enough. DMS took the 33-24 win.
