The DeKalb West School basketball teams were at home last week to play their final home games of the regular season.

On Monday, January 8, DWS hosted Tuckers Crossroad. Both home teams would have a winning night.

In the Lady Bulldogs’ game, DWS scored nine in the first period. Kaylee Womack hit a three-point shot while Camille Barton, Autumn Crook, and Zoey Skeen each had a two-point basket. Tuckers was held scoreless.

The Lady Bulldogs added 11 in the second period, with Sophie Desimone sinking a two and three-pointer, Barton a pair of two-point baskets, and Crook with one two-point shot. Tuckers got on the board with five, but DWS held a 20-5 halftime lead.

DeKalb added 13 to the scoreboard in the third. Desimone had a three-pointer, Barton a couple of two-point baskets and a free throw, Crook a two-pointer and a free throw, and Womack a two-point shot. Tuckers put six on the board, giving DWS the 33-11 lead.

Crook and Womack each had a two-pointer in the fourth, while Tuckers was held to two. DeKalb claimed the 37-8 victory.

It would be the same in the boys’ game. The Bulldogs put 11 on the board in the first period, with Levi Cripps hitting three three-point shots, while Drew Cook had a two-pointer. Tuckers had five points.

The Bulldogs continued on in the second, scoring 12 points. Cripps hit a three-pointer and a pair of free throws, Porter Hancock a two-point basket and a free throw, and Cook and Maddux Pyburn each had a two-pointer. Tuckers scored seven giving DeKalb the 23-12 lead at the half.

DWS added 13 to the board in the third, with Cook and Hancock each with a couple of two-point baskets, Cripps with a three-pointer, and Domminic Williamson with a two-point shot. Tuckers scored five, putting the Bulldogs up 36-17.

Cook, Carson Davis, and Williamson each scored on a two-pointer for the Bulldogs in the fourth, while Hancock added a free throw point. Tuckers came away with 12 points, but DWS claimed the 43-29 victory.

It would be a tougher game the following Thursday as DeKalb West hosted Watertown.

Camille Barton would score the only two-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs in the first period, while Watertown put eight on the board.

Barton would sink a two-pointer and a free throw for the Lady Bulldogs in the second, with Autumn Crook adding a free throw point. Watertown would pull away with 15 points and the 23-6 lead at halftime.

Barton put up three two-pointers and a free throw for DeKalb in the third, with Crook adding another free throw. Watertown steamed ahead with 14 points and the 37-14 lead.

Once again, Barton scored on a two-point basket for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth, with Sophie Desimone added a free throw point. Watertown would end the game with 11, and the 48-17 win.

The boys would have a better night. The Bulldogs came out of the first period with 19 points on the board. Porter Hancock hit a three-point basket and three two-pointers, while Carson Davis added four two-point shots. Maddux Pyburn also had a two-pointer. Watertown was held to just five.

Levi Cripps hit on a three-point shot for the Bulldogs in the second, while Cook, Davis, and Pyburn each had a two-point basket. Watertown scored six, giving DWS the 28-11 lead at the half.

The Bulldogs scored 11 in the third period, with a three-pointer by Hancock, and two pointers by Cook, Davis, Cripps, and Pyburn. Watertown scored 13, but DeKalb was still up 39-24.

DWS ended the game with 12 more points. Hancock came away with a couple of two-pointers and a pair of free throws, while Cook, Davis, and Cripps each had a two-point basket of their own. Watertown was held to 11, giving the Bulldogs the 51-35 victory.
