Hard week for DeKalb Middle School teams

The DeKalb Middle School Saints and Lady Saints were in action last week with one game at home and another on the road.
On Nov. 18 the boys were at home facing Rickman, where the game came down to the fourth quarter.
The Saints kept the game close in the first period, scoring nine points to Rickman’s 11. Marshal Evins and Tyler Cantrell each had a three-pointer in the quarter.
Rickman’s lead was still in jeopardy at the half, with DeKalb scoring seven points to Rickman’s eight. Austin Johnson and Tanner Poss each had two-pointers in the second period, but Rickman kept the lead, 19-16.
The Saints pulled to within one in the third quarter, with Cantrell getting a three-pointer and Bradley Miller, Trey Jones and Poss each having two-point shots. DeKalb scored 12 points in all, with Rickman getting 10. Rickman’s lead was 29-28.
It was in the fourth period that Rickman turned up the heat. The team outscored the Saints two to one in the period, shooting 22 to DeKalb’s 11. Evins had a three-pointer, while Miller had two two-pointers. Logan Painter also had a two-point shot. Rickman would come away with the win, 51-39.
Evins went five for six on free throws, while Miller was two for four. Johnson and Poss were each one for two, with Luke Bryant going two for two. Painter was zero for one on free throws.
On Nov. 22 the Saints were on the road to take on Warren County, where the Pioneers took a 52-28 victory over DeKalb.
The Lady Saints also faced Rickman at home in a match where the basket was hard to find for both teams. The Lady Saints took a narrow lead in the first period, scoring eight points to Rickman’s six. Joni Robinson had two three-pointers in the quarter.
Points were scarce in the second period and DeKalb saw their lead vanish. Rickman scored nine points, while DeKalb scored only once off of a two-pointer by Robinson. Rickman took the halftime lead, 15-10.
Rickman increased their lead in the third period with six more points. The Lady Saints’ only points came off of a three-pointer by Robinson, and Rickman was up, 21-13.
The Lady Saints scored five points in the fourth period, but it wasn’t enough. Rickman scored eight and took the win, 29-18. Robinson and Madison Parsley each had a two-pointer in the period.
Robinson went one for two on free throws in the game, while Abby Evans was two for two.
On Nov. 22 the Lady Saints were in Warren County where they fell in a close game, 26-23.
