Homecoming Parade Wows the Crowd
Homecoming

The threat of stormy weather through a wrench into last week’s homecoming celebrations, resulting in things running a little backwards. The Homecoming game between the Tigers and Watertown was played a day early, on Thursday, with fears of wet weather marring the pregame ceremony. The homecoming parade went ahead as scheduled on Friday, the day after DeKalb’s victory over the Purple Tigers.

Lights, sirens and the sounds of the Fighting Tiger Band filled the streets of Smithville Friday afternoon, as the parade wove down Broad Street before visiting Smithville Elementary, then Northside Elementary. The procession then made its way past the assembled crowds along the Courthouse Square where onlookers cheered on the various floats and vehicles.

Homecoming Queen Caroline Crook and her court were featured on one float, while the various DCHS sports teams and cheer waved to the crowd from other floats. Mister and Miss DCHS Jordan Parker and Annabella Dakas rode in a classic Shelby, while the DCHS faculty, the DCHS Band King and Queen, and various clubs were also featured.

In the float competition, the FFA Club won first place while second place went to the Senior Class float. The Junior Class float took third place.

In the best decorated vehicle category, Chase Vaughn in a Kia Optima won first place. Mara Oakley in a Kia Soul took second place and Cheyenne Martin in a 1972 F100 got third place. Adison Summers in a Dodge Ram received honorable mention.
