The DeKalb County Tigerettes top arm in the circle will be moving on to the college ranks after high school. Kora Kilgore announced last week that she will be continuing her softball career with the Trojans at Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina.
Kora is the 17-year-old daughter of John and Ginda Kilgore and has been the go-to pitcher for the Tigerettes for most of her high school days. Last Thursday she was joined by family, friends, and all of her old coaches as she signed a letter of intent.
“She is a worker,” former Tigerette head coach Danielle Horton said. “When she has a goal in mind she works until she gets it, and she is probably one of the most incredible leaders I have had the ability to coach. She works really hard and is the type of person when she wants to excel, she is going to put forth the work. This hasn’t come without a lot of work from her and a lot of hours being put in. She has put in the time to be here.”
“Kora’s work ethic is top notch,” said Coach Duke. “Her leadership is out of this world. She is just a good player and she’s an even a better person. She leads by example. I would not want anyone else up on the mound than Kora when I need a ‘W.’”
When asked why she chose Anderson, Kora said at first, she didn’t know anything about the school. “I didn’t know it existed, and then we played a team when I was playing travel ball, and the coach there knew the head coach at Anderson and got me a visit there. When I went down there, I really liked the school. I liked the coach and the softball program,” said Kora.
Kora is a senior at DCHS and is a member of the BETA and FBLA Clubs. She said that she plans on studying accounting during her time at the university.
