Lady Saints Fall to Gordonsville
Softball

The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints softball team managed to get one game on the books last week, with an away game against White County postponed due to rain.

On Tuesday, March 8, the ladies traveled to Gordonsville where they faced some tough competition. DeKalb would fall behind early, but would gain traction in the fourth.

Zayleigh Washer would start things off for the Lady Saints, reaching on a double, but after that it was three up and three down. Gordonsville would see three runners touch home plate before the end of the first.

The Lady Saints wouldn’t do much better in the second inning, with only Maggie Hendrixson reaching on a walk. Gordonsville would add two more runs at the end of two, taking a 5-0 lead.

DeKalb would finally get on the board in the third inning. Lillie Young would start things off with a single, followed by a big hit by Washer. Sydney Polk would later triple, but that’s where the inning would stall. Gordonsville would be held off the board in the third, with DMS cutting the lead, 5-2.

Hendrixson would single to start the fourth inning, later followed by a single by Allison Estes. Young would next single, then Washer would get another big hit. Polk would triple, and by the time Gordonsville got off the field, the Lady Saints had pulled ahead, 7-5.

Undeterred, Gordonsville’s next at bat pretty much sealed the game. Gordonsville would put seven more runs on the board before DMS could get off the field.

DMS had one last chance. As they came to bat, only Hendrixson would reach off of a single. The Lady Saints would fall, 12-7.
