Powerhouse and conference rival Avery Trace came into town on Sept. 4 to face the Lady Saints, with both teams coming into Thursday night undefeated in the conference standings. Something had to give.

The Lady Saints struck first with two quick goals, one from Malia Stanley, and another from Sarah Starnes. It was evident that DMS came to play, but after a defensive miscue the score was 2-1.

Malia Stanley put another goal in before half as the Lady Saints were up 3-1 at halftime.

After some adjustments at half, both teams came out on fire, each putting in a goal and pushing the score to 4-2. Sarah Starnes finally put the game out of reach with a goal making the score 5-2. Goalkeeper Mary Maple had 11 saves in the game.

The Lady Saints possessed the ball more throughout the game, and also had more scoring opportunities, which helped aid DMS in their victory with over Avery Trace. This was the first time the Saints have beaten Avery Trace in its short history.

The DMS Lady Saints will travel to Jamestown Tuesday night and first place Algood Friday night this week. Both games starting at 6 pm.
