The DMS Lady Saints softball team had a rough week, falling in two home games, then again on the road.

On Monday, March 11, the girls were on their home field as they hosted visiting Gordonsville. Gordonsville would get on the board first, then slowly pull away.

Gordonsville would strike first, scoring one run at the top of the first. The Lady Saints would also score one run, after Lakelyn Nelson singled on a bunt, then took second as Maggie Hendrixson stepped to the plate. Hendrixson would walk, and later Jerusalem Aldino hit a double, driving Nelson home. The game was tied 1-1.

At the top of the second, Gordonsville would score two more runs, while DMS went three and out.

Gordonsville added five in the third inning, then the Lady Saints put two more on the board. Sophie Adcock got a walk, and later was drove home with a triple to right by Liliana Judkins. Judkins would come home after a double to center by Aldino. At the end of three, DeKalb was behind 8-3.

It was three and out for Gordonsville in the fourth, but DeKalb didn’t do any better.

Gordonsville would add three more runs in the fifth, giving DeKalb one last at bat. Adcock walked, and later Hendrixson hit a double to right, sending Adcock home. Hendrixson would also come home after a single to left by Aldino. It wouldn’t be enough. Gordonsville got off the field with the 11-5 win.

The following day, the ladies were again at home, this time hosting White County. It would be a close game.

Right off the bat, Sparta put four runs on the board. DeKalb would go three and out at their first at the plate.

The bats were hot for Sparta, but the Lady Saints managed to keep them off the board in the second inning. DeKalb’s then managed to get on the board.

Aldino got an easy trip to first base, followed by a single to right by Hailey Moore. Lola Colwell would then step up with a double to left, sending runs home. Moore would also single to third, but would be left standing as the inning came to a close. DMS was on the board 4-2.

Sparta added two more runs in the third, but Hendrixson would also come home for DeKalb. She reached on a single to third, then Judkins singled as well. Aldino would get a walk, then Moore single to third, driving Hendrixson home. By the end of three, Sparta was up 6-3.

In the fourth, Sparta would cap off their score with two more runs. The Lady Saints would be held off the board, but would hold Sparta scoreless at the top of the fifth. DMS had one last chance.

Aldino would get another walk, as would Moore. Moore would get caught at second, but Lola Colwell would also get a walk. Hannah Tobitt would then walk, loading the bases. Kennedy Odom would walk, sending Aldino home, then Adcock singled to left, sending Colwell and Tobitt home. It was not enough. Sparta would get off the field with the 8-6 win.

On Thursday, the Lady Saints were on the road, this time facing White County on their home field.

The Lady Saints couldn’t get thigs going for the first two innings, while Sparta jumped out with six runs in the second.

DMS finally got on the board in the third. Colwell hit a double to short, but was later caught stealing third. Adcock and Nelson would later each walk, then Hendrixson singled to center. Judkins would single to right, sending Adcock and Nelson home. Aldino would single on a hit to second, followed by a single to right by Tobitt, sending Hendrixson and Judkins home. DMS cut the lead, 6-4.

That would be all the points the Lady Saints would see. Sparta was held off the board in the third, but would close the game out with six more points in the fourth. DMS was held off the board in the fourth giving White County the 12-4 win.
