The Lady Tigers cemented at least third place in the district Monday night with a 66-55 win over the visiting Lady Lions from Cannon County.

DeKalb went up early, leading 16-11 after one behind the scoring of Kadee Ferrell who slashed through the lane early and often to lead all scorers with 24 on the night. They grew their lead to eight by half, leading 31-23 as Lydia Brown stepped up to deposit 18 into the scoring column.

The third saw the Lady Tigers hold steady despite a stellar performance by Cannon County’s Jessie Coffman who led the Lady Lions with 23. She was only Cannon player to break double digits on the evening.

The Lady Lions were able to make a run in the fourth but prowess at the free throw line kept them at arm’s length as Ferrell went eight-for-eight from the charity stripe to seal the deal.

Contributing the scoring column was Emme Colwell with 13, Mya Ruch with seven, Madison Parsley and Kenzie France, both with a deuce.

The win leaves DeKalb 17-6 on the season and 9-2 in the district, their only two losses to the teams they now look up to, Upperman and Macon County. They will travel to state champion Upperman Friday night. They hold a three game lead on York for third, meaning they have clinched at least third place in the district.
