It was another hard week for the DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers on the basketball court, falling to Cumberland County in front of the home crowd early in the week, then taking a loss to Upperman on the road.
On Tuesday, February 4, the girls were on their home court as they hosted the Lady Jets of Cumberland County. It was Senior Night for DeKalb and the girls fell behind in the first period, but would rebound in the second.
The Lady Tigers scored eight points in the first period, with a three-point basket by Avery Agee, a two-pointer and a free throw by Brooke Fuson, and a two-pointer by Lillie Young. The Lady Jets put 15 on the board.
DeKalb added nine to the scoreboard in the second period, with Allie Melton hitting a two and three-pointer and a free throw, while Fuson added a two-point shot. Jordyn Agee had a free throw point. Cumberland was held to three points, cutting their lead 18-17 at the half.
Jordyn Agee scored the lone point for the Lady Tigers in the third, off of a free throw. The Lady Jets dominated with 22 points, taking the 40-18 lead.
The Lady Tigers ended the game with 11 points. Avery Agee sank a three-pointer, while Young added a pair of twos and a free throw. Cumberland sealed the game shut with 15, taking the 55-29 win.
The following Friday, the girls were on the road, this time taking on the Lady Bees of Upperman. The Lady Bees would dominate both halves.
Melton put a two and three-pointer on the board for DeKalb in the first period, while Chloe VanVranken added a free throw point. Upperman blew the scoreboard up with 25 points.
The Lady Tigers were held scoreless in the second period, while the Lady Bees added seven to their tally. Upperman was up 32-6 at halftime.
VanVranken and Fuson each had a two-point basket for the Lady Tigers in the third period. Upperman continued the onslaught with 23 more points and the 55-10 lead.
Autumn Crook hit a three-pointer and a two-point shot for the Lady Tigers in the fourth, while Jordyn Agee added a two-point basket. Upperman ended the game with eight points, taking the 63-17 win.
