The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers basketball team played their final two regular season games last week, one in front of the hometown crowd, and another on the road against the Lady Bees. It would not be a good week for DeKalb.

On Tuesday, February 8, the Lady Tigers were at home where they faced off against Cumberland County and the Lady Jets. Like so many games before, the Lady Tigers would have a slow start and spend most of the game trying to catch up.

DeKalb only scored four points in the first period, with Ella Hendrixson sinking a two-pointer, while Ella Van Vranken added a pair of free throw shots. Cumberland put 15 points on the board, taking the early lead.

Avery Agee got on the board for the Lady Tigers in the second period, hitting a two and three-point basket, while Van Vranken added another two-pointer and a couple of free throws. Kadee Ferrell got on the board with a pair of free throw points as well. The Lady Jets padded their lead with 11 points, 26-14 at the half.

The Lady Tigers finally got in gear in the third period, scoring 17 points. Ferrell sank three two-point baskets and a free throw, while Van Vranken had a two-pointer, three-pointer and a couple of free throw points. Agee also added a three-point shot. Cumberland was held to 13 points, but still claimed a 39-31 lead.

DeKalb would repeat in the fourth period, scoring another 17 points. Ferrell had three two-point baskets and a free throw, while Van Vranken hit a three-point shot and a pair of free throws. Agee added another three-pointer, while Madison Martin got on the board with a two-point shot. Again, the Lady Jets were held to 13 points, but it was enough for the 52-48 win.

Van Vranken was the top scorer for DeKalb, putting 17 points on the board. Ferrell was a close second with 16 points, Agee had 11, and Martin and Hendrixson each had two.

The following Friday the team was on the road, traveling to Baxter to take on the Lady Bees in the final regular season game. Again, the Lady Tigers had a slow start.

Madison Martin and Xharia Lyons scored the only points for DeKalb in the first period, each with a two-point basket. Upperman came away with 10 points.

Van Vranken got on the board with a two-point shot and a couple of free throws for the Lady Tigers in the second period, while Ferrell came away with a two-point shot. Dare Collins added a free throw point as well. Upperman poured on the points, scoring 19 and taking the 29-11 halftime lead.

Avery Agee sank a couple of three-point baskets for DeKalb in the third period, while Ferrell added a free throw point. The Lady Bees continued to pile on points, scoring 11, and taking a 40-18 lead.

The Lady Tigers only scored six points in the fourth period. Tess Barton and Darah Ramsey each had a two-pointer, while Collins sank a pair of free throws. Upperman ended the game with 14 points and the 54-24 victory.

Agee was the top scorer for the Lady Tigers with six points, while Van Vranken was second with four. Ferrell and Collins each had three points, while Martin, Lyons, Barton and Ramsey each had two.
