The DeKalb Lady Tigers basketball team got a win on the road, before falling at home last week in a couple of border rival games.

The Lady Tigers trailed Smith County 16-11 after the first period, and 41-25 at halftime. The Lady Owls would go up 55-35 after the third period, before falling 67-44.

Ella VanVranken led the team in scoring with 16, followed by Tess Barton with 10, Allie Melton 5, Cam Branin and Chloe VanVranken each with 4, Avery Agee and Brooklyn Fuson each with 2 and Lillie Young with 1.

On Friday, December 8, the girls were back on their home court where they took on the visiting Lady Pioneers of Warren County. The Lady Tigers put 24 on the board in the first period, with Chloe VanVranken hitting a pair of three-pointers and a two-pointer, while Ella VanVranken hit a two-point shot, a three-pointer, and three free throw points. Avery Agee had a three-point basket, Cam Branin a two-pointer, and Tess Barton three free throw points. The Lady Pioneers put 15 on the board.

The Lady Tigers added 29 points in the second period. Avery Agee had a pair of three-point baskets and three free throws, while Chloe VanVranken added a pair of three-point shots. Ella had a three-pointer and a free throw, Allie Melton a three-pointer, and Branin a pair of two-pointers and a three-point shot. Warren came away with 16 points. DeKalb was up, 53-31 at the half.

DeKalb put 12 points on the board in the third, with Ella VanVranken hitting a couple of two-pointers and a free throw, while sister Chloe hit a three-point shot and a pair of free throws. Barton also added a two-point basket. The Lady Pioneers scored 14 points, giving DCHS the 65-45 lead.

The Lady Tigers only came away with five points in the fourth period, with a two-pointer and a couple of free throws by Chloe VanVranken and a free throw point by Ella. Warren County scored 14 points, but DeKalb would come away with the 70-59 victory.
