Lady Tigers Get Wins

The Lady Tigers traveled to Lebanon last week to participate in the Kerry Malone Super Games at Wilson County High School. The girls would hold on for a win in the first game, then get a comeback win in the second.

On Tuesday, December 20, the Lady Tigers took on Wilson Central in their first game of competition. DeKalb would get the early lead, but Wilson would surge late in the game.

The Lady Tigers put 13 points on the board in the first period, with Tess Barton coming away with a pair of two-point baskets and a couple of free throw points, while Ella VanVranken hit a two-point shot and a free throw. Chloe VanVranken and Madison Martin each added a two-pointer to the board. Wilson Central was held to just eight points.

Chloe VanVranken hit on a two-point basket and a couple of three-point shots in the second period, while Ella VanVranken added a two-pointer and a pair of free throw points. Avery Agee sank a three-point shot. Wilson scored 16, but DeKalb held a 28-24 halftime lead.

Ella VanVranken got hot in the third period, scoring three two-point baskets and a three-pointer, while Martin had a two and three-point shot. Barton also had a two-point basket. Wilson Central stayed close, scoring 15 points. DeKalb was up, 44-39.

Wilson Central would put the pressure on in the fourth period, scoring 16 points. For the Lady Tigers, Ella VanVranken sank a three-pointer, a couple of two-point shots and a pair of free throws, while Martin added a two-point shot and a couple of free throw points. It would be just enough to give the Lady Tigers the 57-55 victory.

Ella VanVranken was top on the scoreboard with 25 points. Martin had 11 points, Chloe VanVranken 10, Barton seven, and Agee had three points.

The following day, the Lady Tigers were back in Lebanon, this time taking on the Lady Eagles of Ezell-Harding Christian School. The game would be tight throughout with DeKalb making a surge late.

The Lady Tigers scored seven in the first period, with Ella VanVranken sinking a three-point basket and a two-pointer. Camryn Branin added a pair of free throw points. The Lady Eagles jumped ahead scoring 10 points.

DeKalb came away with 13 points in the second period, with Ella VanVranken hitting a couple of two-pointers, Avery Agee sinking a three-pointer, and Branin adding a two-point shot. Chloe VanVranken had three free throw points, while Tess Barton had one. The Lady Eagles matched DeKalb point for point and claimed the 23-20 halftime lead.

The Lady Tigers kept up the pressure in the third period putting 11 points on the board. Ella VanVranken sank a three-point basket and three two-pointers, while her sister Chloe added a pair of free throw points. Ezell-Harding was held to 10 points, but still held a narrow 33-31 lead.

DCHS put 25 points on the board in the fourth, with Ella VanVranken hitting a two-pointer and six free throw points, while Agee added five free throw points. Chloe VanVranken had a pair of two-pointers and a free throw, while Branin had a two-pointer and one free throw. Madison Martin also got on the board, sinking four free throws. Defensively, the Lady Eagles were held to 18 points, giving the Lady Tigers the 56-51 victory.

Ella VanVranken scored a whopping 26 points in the game, while Chloe VanVranken put 10 on the board. Agee had eight, Branin had seven, Martin four, and Barton had one.
