The DeKalb County Tigerettes softball team just played one game last week, taking Friday off for Prom Night. On Tuesday, April 8, the team was on the road taking on a tough Stone Memorial team.
The game was a stalemate through two and a half innings, when the Lady Panthers put four runs on the board. Stone would add one more run at the bottom of the fifth, giving DeKalb a lot of ground to make up.
The Tigerettes finally got on the board at the top of the fifth inning, after a double fly to left by Zayleigh Bain. Kora Kilgore would next single on a line drive to left as Bain crossed the plate.
The game would go to the bottom of the seventh, when DeKalb attempted to make a comeback. Bain singled on a grounder to second, then Kilgore singled on a ground ball to right as Bain came home. Hannah Brown was up next and hit a triple line drive to right as Chaylea Lunsford, running for Kilgore, crossed the plate. Maggie Hendrixson then singled on a grounder to first as Brown scored. The Tigerettes had cut the lead, 5-4.
Unfortunately, that would be as far as they would get. Sophie Adcock popped out in foul territory, then Fuson went down swinging, ending the game. Stone claimed the narrow 5-4 win.
Kilgore took the loss from the circle, going six innings, allowing five runs and five hits, striking out 12 and walking two. 12-5-1 on the season so far.
