Madison Martin had some big points this week against both Smith and Macon County.

The DCHS Lady Tigers basketball team had a good week, playing a couple of home games against some quality opponents.

On Monday, January 30, the girls were in their home gym, taking on the Lady Owls of Smith County. The Lady Tigers would take the early lead and never look back.

DeKalb scored 14 points in the first period, with Madison Martin hitting a two and three-point basket, while Ella VanVranken sank a pair of two-pointers and three free throws. Ella Hendrixson also had a two-point shot. Smith was held to just six points.

The Lady Tigers increased the pressure in the second period, scoring 21 points. Chloe VanVranken scored on a two and three-point shot and a couple of free throws, while Avery Agee added a pair of two-pointers and a free throw. Cadee Griffith added a couple of two-point baskets, while Hendrixson had another two-point shot. Ella VanVranken had two free throw points, while Tess Barton had one. Smith was held to just 12 points, giving DeKalb the 35-18 lead at the half.

Madison Martin was on fire for the Lady Tigers in the third period, scoring on a couple of three-point shots, a two-pointer, and four free throws. Ella VanVranken had a two-point shot, while Agee and Barton each had a free throw point. Smith County came away with 21 points, but DeKalb still claimed a 51-39 lead.

The Lady Tigers sealed up the game with 16 more points in the fourth. Chloe VanVranken sank four free throws, while sister, Ella, hit a three-pointer and a pair of free throws. Agee had a two-pointer and a free throw, while Martin and Barton each had a two-point shot. Smith scored 17, but the Lady Tigers claimed the 67-56 victory.

Madison Martin was at the top of the scoreboard for the Lady Tigers, scoring 19 points, while Ella VanVranken had 14 points. Chloe VanVranken had 11 points, Agee had nine, while Griffith, Hendrixson, and Barton each had four.

The game scheduled for the following evening against Macon County, had to be postponed until Thursday night due to ice storms in the area. Once the game got underway, it looked like it would be another good night for the Lady Tigers.

DeKalb came away with 26 points in the first period, with Madison Martin again on fire with three three-point baskets and a two-pointer, while Avery Agee added a two and three-point shot. Ella VanVranken and Tess Barton each had a pair of two-pointers, while Chloe VanVranken had a couple of free throw points. Macon County was held to 15 points.

The Lady Tigers kept it up in the second period, with Ella VanVranken sinking a pair of three-point shots, a two-pointer, and a couple of free throws. Ella Hendrixson hit a three-point shot, while Chloe VanVranken had a pair of two-pointers and a free throw. Martin added a two-point basket and a free throw of her own. Macon was held to 17, giving DeKalb the 47-32 halftime lead.

Ella VanVranken sank three two-point baskets and four free throws for the Lady Tigers in the third period, while Barton hit on a pair of two-pointers. Agee also had a two-point shot. Macon came away with 17 points, but DeKalb still held a 63-49 lead.

The Lady Tigers would put 22 points on the board in the fourth period, with Martin sinking three two-pointers and a couple of free throws, while Ella VanVranken had a two-pointer and a pair of free throws. Barton sank a couple of two-point shots, while Agee had four free throw points. Chloe VanVranken added two free throw points. Macon would put 30 points on the board, but it wouldn’t be enough. DeKalb took the 85-80 win.

Ella VanVranken was the top DeKalb scorer with 27 points, while Madison Martin came away with 22. Agee and Barton each had 12 points, while Chloe VanVranken had nine. Ella Hendrixson had three points.
