It took overtime but the Lady Tigers were able to shake off a two-game losing streak to a pair of state powerhouses and get off the snide by beating Smith County this past week, 67-62.
Their win over the Owlettes came after DeKalb owned a comfortable nine-point half-time lead on the road. After a 13-12 back and forth tilt in the first, the Lady Tiger shooting came around in the second period to give them a 30-21 advantage going into the locker room. However, the home team came out swinging in the second half with the Owlettes erasing the DeKalb advantage and taking a one point lead of their own into the final quarter – or what was expected to be the final quarter.
After trading baskets throughout the fourth, the teams found themselves deadlocked at 53 meaning the fans were treated to free basketball. The overtime period belong to DeKalb as they outscored their hosts 14-9. The win cemented DeKalb at third in the district with a 5-2 record, their losses coming to defending state champion Upperman and defending state runner-up Macon County. The win set the Lady Tiger record at 13-6 as their district road schedule continued going into York Friday evening.
