The DCHS Lady Tigers won their season opener against The Chattanooga Christian Lady Patriots Friday night in a 70-39 contest.
The Lady Tigers led scored 20 points in the first period, while the Lady Patriots answered with four, and after outscoring the team from Chattanooga 22-11 in the second, the Lady Tigers took a 42-15 lead into half time. DeKalb increased their lead to 57-28 in the third, and outpaced the competition 13-11 in the fourth to take the win.
Hannah Panter led the Lady Tigers with 17 points, hitting three-three point shots and going four-for-four from the free-throw line. Lydia Brown put 13 points up for DeKalb, Macy Hedge scored eight, and Lera Britt and Emme Colwell added seven points each.
Mya Ruch scored six points in the game for DCHS, Joni Robinson scored four, Madison Parsley, and Kenzie France and Abbi Taylor put up two each. Nicole Coffey and Abby Evans added one point each to the Lady Tiger total.
Meanwhile, a Saturday night game in Watertown slipped through DeKalb’s fingers in a two-point contest.
The Lady Tigers took a heartbreaking 41-43 loss to the Lady Purple Tigers. While DeKalb trailed 8-4 at the end of the first, and 19-12 at the half, a 20-13 third period brought DCHS back to tie the score 32-32 at the beginning of the fourth period.
Watertown managed to grab the lead in the final seconds of the game and hold on, scoring 11 points in the fourth period compared to DeKalb’s nine, and taking the win 41-43.
DeKalb traveled to Trousdale County Monday, and will play in the Cannon County Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 25-26 in Woodbury.
