The DeKalb Middle School Saints advanced through the first round of the District Tournament last week, securing a win against Prescott Middle School last Wednesday.
DMS scored only two points in the first period, a two-point basket by Keegan Taylor. Prescott took the narrow lead with three points.
The Saints moved ahead in the second period, scoring nine points. Auston Parker came away with a three-point shot, while Reed Midgett added a pair of two-pointers. Hayden Quarles had a couple of free throw points. Prescott was held to six, giving DeKalb the 11-9 halftime lead.
Parker hit another three-point shot for the Saints in the third period, while Midgett and Skylar Herriott each had a two-point basket. Gavin Frazier added a free throw point. Prescott was held to five, giving DMS the uncomfortable 19-14 lead.
It came down to the fourth period where each team stepped up. The Saints put 11 on the board, with Midgett adding a two-point shot and a free throw, Taylor with a two-pointer, Parker with two free throw points, and Quarles with four. Prescott added 10 to the board, giving the Saints the 24-30 win.
