Jesse Foutch calls his own number as the Saints take on the Wildcats.

The 2022 season for the DeKalb Middle School Saints began on a high note at home last Thursday evening as the Saints stymied the Overton County Jr. Panthers, 16-0.

Running Back JT Summers and Quarterback Jesse Foutch both had big games on the ground for the Saints as the DeKalb Offense put up 150 yards of total offense in the game.  Summers had a rushing TD in the contest and Foutch found Wide Receiver Carmello Davis for a touchdown through the air for another.

As Good as the Saints’ offense was, their defense was just as good. The Saints lived in the Jr. Panthers’ backfield seemingly all night long keeping Overton County from ever finding any semblance of rhythm in the game, managing only 6 first downs in the game and never crossing the goal line.

The Saints’ first drive of the season looked promising, going 6 plays covering 33 yards before turning the ball over on downs to Overton County.

The Jr Wildcats put together an impressive opening drive of their own.  Beginning at their own 10 yard line, Overton County marched 73 yards through the Saints Defense before stalling out on the Saints’ 27 yard line.

The next time the Saints’ got the ball, they would make Overton County pay.

Powered by big runs by J T Summers, DMS marched 46 yards downfield before quarterback Jesse Foutch found Carmello Davis for a 30 yard scoring strike with 2:24 left in the half to put the Saints on the board first.  Summers would weave his way in for the 2 point conversion to extend the Middle lead 8-0.

The Jr. Wildcats could muster nothing offensively neither in the rest of the first half nor in their first possession of the first half.  The Saints would falter in their first drive of the second half but Tucker Webb would recover a Overton County fumble to put the Saints in business at the Jr. Wildcats’ 42 yard line.

DeKalb would extinguish all Jr. Wildcats’ hopes with the ensuing drive.

Again backed by big runs by JT Summers and Jesse Foutch, DeKalb would power the way down to the 2 yard line, before Summers would rumble in from 2 yards out for another Saints’ touchdown.  Foutch would run in for the two point conversion to put what would be the final points on the board, and give the Saints an opening night win, 16-0.

DMS will travel to Lafayette August 11 to take on Macon County to open up conference play.  Game time is 6:30
